Treacle Scone Recipe

Your scone ingredients....

2 cups of flour (all purpose)
1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
1/4 cup of brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/2 cup dried currants
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons dark molasses (do not use)
3/4 cup buttermilk
butter (melted)

Preheat your cooker to 425F. Filter the glour flour, the sugar, baking soda & powder, the nutmeg,cinnamon and salt into a large mixing bowl.

Next you need to add in your dried currants and then melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter with dark molasses in a small pan over low heat.

Combine molasses mixture with the buttermilk and por into dry ingredients.

Mix dough until just blended together. Knead dough on generously floured surface until it is smooth, about 15 turns should do it.

Divide your dough mixture in half.

Pat out each dough piece into 5-inch diameter round and then cut each dough round into 4 wedges.

Transfer dough wedges onto an ungreased cookie sheet, spacing 2 inches apart.

Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.

Bake until scones are brown, about 15-20 minutes. Serve scones hot.
